Abstract:

This study has investigated Banking professional’s awareness of Blockchain technology. The study has observed 200 Banking professionals from 10 commercial Banks of Bangladesh. The convenience sampling used during data collection. Data were analyzed using SPSS and Excel. The results from the study indicated that awareness is relatively low among the respondents. Most of the respondents believe that Blockchin will affect their industry. A big percentage of the survey participants are not aware about the plan of their organization’s Blockchain deployment. Although based on today’s literature Blockchain seems to be a very reliable and secure solution, security is still among the first three factors that worries respondents the most. The remaining two factors that worries respondents the most are reluctance to change established processes and unclear regulatory framework. Majority of the banking professionals surveyed believe that Blockchain can materially support reduction in errors relating to transactions. The results have also revealed that Blockchain will increase ease of record keeping for business critical records. The study has suggested leaders of the banking industry should play a vital role for deploying Blockchain in the banking sector in Bangladesh. The paper poses some impetus for the researchers for digital transformation in the banking industry.
