Title of presentation: Relative proximate analysis of ethanolic and aqueous extracts of Cymbopogon citratus (lemon grass) – GC-MS analysis
The lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus (Stapf)) is a perennial grass belonging to family Graminaceae grouped under genus Cymbopogon. The proximate and phytochemical analysis of fresh lemongrass leaves and its ethanolic and aqueous extract were analyzed. The phytochemical constituents were found to be fewer as compared to fresh leaves.The lemongrass powder contain alkaloid (0.25%), saponins (0.18%), tannin (0.065%), steroids (0.056%), phenols (0.250%) and flavonoids (0.25%) in sensorially selected sample. The sample with 5% lemongrass powder was found to be highly acceptable over other sample.A gas chromatography mass spectrophotometry detection method for the quantification of bioactive putative marker compound (neral, geranial, geraniol, limonene, citronellal, and β-myrcene) in the essential oil of Cymbopogon citratus (lemon grass) was optimized. Using the extraction of plant essential oils from C. citratus were compared with solvent extraction such aslemon grass leaf dried solvent extraction, supercritical fluid extraction andsteam distillation extraction. Solvent extraction by sonication with nonpolar solvents showed comparable results to the steam distillation method. Several profit-making products prepared from C. citratus were analyzed and compared as used in traditional medicine for the treatment of inflammation, gastritis, diabetes and nervous disorders.

He also published a research articles in the field of Neuroscience, Phytochemistry and Reproductive technology on International and National Scopus, Elsevier, Thomas Reuters and Web of Science Journals. He published a 2 Book chapters and Text book on Plant Biochemistry for Agricultural Sciences, Objectives in Agricultural Sciences and Concise in Plant Biochemistry Dictionary (2018).
